Features: This series of books has no connection with the former "Xueleng" supplement. Today, we also lack the ability to gather so many renowned scholars together. However, we wish to light a "scholarly lamp," transcending factionalism, and create a platform for contemporary scholars to express their thoughts. Humanity has entered a new century and a new millennium. At this moment, we vaguely feel that a cultural landscape of intellectual diversity and vigorous debate is about to emerge in China. We organized this series of books with the hope of contributing to the early formation of such a landscape. Since we aim to transcend factionalism, the serial number of this series does not represent a specific school, viewpoint, or ideological stance, but rather an open garden where any collection of essays with intellectual depth and literary flair is welcome. Most of the works collected here were written at the turn of the century. If one values the transition of time, they could be said to have been written in the dawn of the new century, imbued with a sense of joy and anticipation. Some may argue that the counting of years and months is merely a human construct. Each sunrise and sunset is but a repetition. There is nothing new, and life goes on as usual. I hold both perspectives and neither. Even at my advanced age, my hands and feet are still nimble, and quietly stepping into the new century fills me with quiet joy. Let me try to compose a couplet, but the words that come out are all old ones. The details will be explained in "Renzì Gāo," but here let me mention the upper line: "The sea embraces a hundred rivers, and great tolerance defines greatness." Not only does it span generations, but it has even become "sticky" over time. The content of this book includes night talks, blessings, epigrams, incidents, and the story of Cao Xueqin.
