Features: Zheng Zhenduo (1898—1958) was a modern writer, literary critic, literary historian, and archaeologist. His pen names include Xidi, CT, Guo Yuexin, etc. He was originally from Changle, Fujian, and was born in Yongjia, Zhejiang. In 1917, he enrolled in the Beijing Railway Management School. After the May Fourth Movement broke out, he participated in social activities as a student representative and co-founded the magazine New Society with Qu Qiubai and others. In November 1920, he co-founded the Literary Research Association with Shen Yanbing, Ye Shaojun, and others, and served as the editor-in-chief of the association's official publication Literary Weekly. He also edited and published the Literary Research Association Series. In January 1923, he succeeded Shen Yanbing as the editor-in-chief of Monthly Novel, advocating realistic "art for life" literature and proposing the literary doctrine of "blood and tears." After the failure of the Great Revolution, he lived in Paris. In 1929, he returned to China. He once served as the editor-in-chief of World Library at the Life Publishing House. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, he participated in founding the "Shanghai Cultural Circle Salvation Association" and established Salvation Daily. He organized the "Fush Society" with Xu Guangping and others, publishing works such as The Complete Works of Lu Xun, History of the Communist Party of China, and Selected Works of Lenin. After the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan, he participated in founding the "China Democratic Promotion League" and established Democracy Weekly, urging the people of the country to fight for democracy and peace. After 1949, he held positions such as Director of the Cultural Relics Bureau, Director of the Institute of Archaeology, Director of the Institute of Literature, Vice Minister of Culture, and Vice Chairman of the China Folk Literature Research Association. On October 18, 1958, he perished in a plane crash while leading a Chinese cultural delegation on a foreign visit. His major works include short story collections Stories of the Family, Gu Gong Tang, prose collection Notes from the Mountains, monographs Outline of Literature, Illustrated History of Chinese Literature, History of Chinese Popular Literature, Collected Works on Chinese Literature, Sketches of Russian Literature, and others. He has The Collected Works of Zheng Zhenduo. Zheng Zhenduo (1898-1958) was a renowned Chinese literary historian, archaeologist, and writer, who also served as the Director of the Institute of Archaeology and the Institute of Literature at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (now the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences) and as a member of the Committee of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Department. This book includes eighteen of his essays on literary history research, novel studies, study of Chinese opera and zhuqin, and art history research, such as "The Origin of Huaben," "The Evolution of Romance of the Three Kingdoms," "On the Dream of the Red Chamber," "On Guan Liucheng's," and "Preface to Illustrated History of Chinese Woodblock Prints," among others. It also includes a detailed chronology of Zheng Zhenduo's life and a bibliography.
