Features: This book is written according to the specific requirements of the "College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) Syllabus." Based on years of teaching experience, the authors systematically analyze the form and characteristics of cloze tests. They provide an in-depth explanation of the difficulties and key points of cloze tests and introduce various methods and steps for overcoming them to a wide range of candidates. Cloze tests are comprehensive assessments that integrate grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. In form, they test candidates' reading comprehension skills, while in content, they assess their syntactic and lexical application abilities, including the comprehensive application of language skills, understanding, and background knowledge. As a testing method, cloze tests can relatively accurately reflect candidates' comprehensive language proficiency and English level. Achieving a high score in cloze tests is not an easy task, as it involves not only knowledge of grammar, passage structure, and reading techniques but also vocabulary discrimination, idiomatic expressions, fixed collocations, and logical reasoning. Due to its significant advantages in testing methods and purposes, which are not possessed by many other examination formats, as well as its diversified and increasingly refined testing form, cloze tests have not only been adopted by famous international exams but have also become one of the frequently used question types in China's College English Test Band 4 and 6. This book focuses specifically on reviewing the grammar learned, categorizing the grammatical structures and key vocabulary usages that may appear in cloze tests and vocabulary and structure questions to facilitate students' review and preparation. Adhering to the principle of combining theory with practice, the book provides detailed explanations of the full authentic CET-4 tests released in recent years, aiming to summarize some regular problem-solving methods for candidates. Additionally, the book offers 30 sets of cloze test simulation questions, including 20 multiple-choice cloze tests, 5 fill-in-the-blank tests with initial letters provided, and 5 open-ended fill-in-the-blank tests. Detailed solutions are provided for cloze tests with four options. The second part of the book introduces the answering methods and techniques for short-answer questions. Short-answer questions are the subjective question type released by the College English Test Committee in its second batch. They primarily assess students' reading skills and written response abilities. The types of passages are mainly expository, and the questions often involve important or easily misunderstood details. The key to answering short-answer questions is to be "brief." We have selected 10 passages of about 300 words each for students to practice simulating.
