Features: From November 13 to 15, 2000, the International Academic Conference on "Retrospection and Prospects of the Study of Ancient Chinese Literary Theory" was held at Fudan University. The main topics of the conference were: 1. A review and summary of the study of ancient Chinese literary theory in the 20th century and future prospects; 2. The relationship between ancient Chinese literary theory and literary creation; 3. The relationship between ancient Chinese literary theory and modern literary studies; 4. The specialized research topics in ancient literary theory of the scholars. At the conference, scholars from home and abroad gathered together, submitted papers, and actively participated in discussions. Due to space limitations, it is difficult to compile all these articles into a single collection. Most of them are included here, while a small portion is published in the fourth issue of Chinese Literary Studies, edited by the Research Center for Ancient Chinese Literature at Fudan University. All the papers, except for minor technical adjustments, remain unchanged. The submitted papers by graduate students are limited by space and are only included in their abstracts. To express literary ideals and to gather friends through literature. May the academic legacy endure, and the bonds of friendship last forever.
