Features: Introduction to Modern Linguistics aims to introduce the fundamental content, current state, and methods of modern linguistic research. It is expected that learners will gain a preliminary understanding of the basic aspects, research focus, and fundamental methods of modern linguistics after using this book, preparing them for more in-depth learning and research. It also provides a new perspective for learners from non-Chinese major disciplines. During the writing process, the book fully incorporates the strengths of currently popular domestic textbooks and, on this basis, strives to reasonably introduce new research findings and concepts such as semantic orientation, semantic structure, grammaticalization, second language teaching, pragmatics, etc. Additionally, considering that many textbooks lack necessary introductions to the history of linguistic research and research methods, this book dedicates a separate chapter to provide a concise introduction to the development of language from the perspective of linguistic schools. The writing team was established at the end of 2002. The professional teachers participating in the writing have all received master's or doctoral degrees and teach related courses in the College of Humanities, International Education College, or at Zhejiang University, accumulating extensive experience, which has laid a solid foundation for the writing of this book.
