Features: The Balkan Peninsula is located in the southeastern part of Europe, situated between the Adriatic Sea, the Aegean Sea, and the Black Sea, at a strategic point connecting three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. The major characteristic of this region is its small size and the numerous ethnic groups and nations within it. The history, geopolitical, economic, religious, and cultural aspects of the Balkan countries, as well as their foreign policies, are complex and diverse. As a result, the region has experienced frequent conflicts and has long been known as "Europe's powder keg." Since the end of World War II, Balkan countries have been divided into two opposing social systems and camps, maintaining a balance of power. The ethnic issues in the Balkans have also been overshadowed by ideological disputes. This book is divided into two parts, primarily covering the emergence of Balkan nationalism, Balkan culture and religion, the idea of unification among Balkan peoples, the resurgence of nationalism and national policies in Balkan countries, the Balkan Muslims, the Balkan Roma, several controversial issues, the evolution of political parties and economic systems in Southeast European countries, and the great powers' competition for the Balkans. Part Two includes: the period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the national policies during the Federal period of Yugoslavia, the dissolution of the Yugoslav Federation and its causes, the Macedonian issue, the Bosnian War, the Kosovo issue, main reference books, and postscript.
