Features: This book is the third volume in the "College English Series for Majors" and focuses on economics. Designed according to the new teaching syllabus, it is suitable for college juniors currently enrolled. It serves as an ideal textbook combining English proficiency with professional knowledge in economics.
This book balances the learning and application of the English language with the acquisition of economic expertise. While students enhance their English skills, they also gain knowledge in economics.
Requirements for Students: Achieve or exceed the College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) level; no prior knowledge of economics is required.
Requirements for Teachers: English teachers with a certain foundation in economics, or economics professionals with high English proficiency.
The main texts in the third volume cover fundamental knowledge and basic concepts in economics. The unit topics include: Consumer Behavior; Gross Domestic Product (GDP); Human Resource Management; Economic Growth; Economic Stability; Investment; International Finance; Insurance; Economic Globalization; and the New Economy. Most of the content reflects the economic and social conditions of the United States.
In terms of content, the third volume expands further on the foundation laid in the second volume, broadening its scope and increasing its specialization. It not only includes macroeconomics and microeconomics but also covers fields such as finance, investment, and insurance, while incorporating current hot topics in global economic development, such as economic globalization.
Compared to the first and second volumes, the language difficulty of the third volume has increased, creating a gradual progression in language learning that aligns with teaching principles. The main texts in the third volume do not have significant jumps in difficulty, maintaining consistency throughout.
Each unit in the third volume includes additional economic terminology with precise Chinese translations. The vocabulary level is based on the "General Vocabulary List for College English Teaching" published by the Ministry of Education, targeting words above the CET-4 level.
The annotations for the main texts cover both English language points and economic terms.
The design and arrangement of each unit’s exercises aim to cultivate students’ English application skills while reinforcing their grasp of professional terminology and basic economic concepts. Teachers should emphasize not only students’ mastery of fundamental economic knowledge but also their oral and written communication abilities, providing ample opportunities for language practice in class. It is recommended that teachers guide students in role-playing, writing exercises, and balancing oral and written practice, as well as individual presentations and group discussions.
Each unit in the third volume now includes two supplementary texts, related to the main texts and of similar difficulty. These are intended to increase students’ reading volume and broaden their knowledge in economics. They are primarily for self-study but can also be selected by teachers as needed.
Based on students’ professional backgrounds and English proficiency, teachers may flexibly adjust the content of the texts and exercises.
