Features: This book was originally composed of six lectures given by the author during the 1938–1939 academic year at Cornell University, known as the "Messenger Lectures on the Evolution of Civilization." Hiram J. Messenger established this series of lectures and named it. Messenger was a Bachelor of Arts and a Ph.D. in philosophy, from Hartford, Connecticut. In his will, he bequeathed a portion of his estate to Cornell University, requesting that the funds be used annually to "establish a series of lectures on the evolution of civilization, the purpose of which is to elevate the moral level of our political, business, and social lives."
