Features: F. H?lderlin once advised: "If you cannot afford a lamp and oil, and if you have no time except from midnight to cockcrow, then you must study philosophy. Now, borrowing H?lderlin's words, if you want to meet with world-class thinkers face to face, why not take some time to read this book (except from midnight to cockcrow). What is the use of philosophy? V. Blumberg believes that philosophy is the mother, the matrix, from which all other sciences have branched off. If someone were to say to a philosopher that he does not understand one of these children, the philosopher would feel humiliated. The philosophical mother is willing to communicate with all her children and feels responsible for everything. The times have changed fundamentally, and so has philosophy; the relationship between philosophy and the masses has also changed. The growing interest of the masses is not only directed towards the names of the great philosophers; they need philosophy to provide a responsible account of the general experience of the past few decades.
