Features: With the rapid development of economy and technology, people's life concepts have undergone fundamental changes. Creative activities that combine new concepts with new materials, processes, and technologies continuously inspire and meet people's new needs. Design education, which is directly related to "artificial objects," has also become increasingly mature in this process of development. As the country's doors open wider and domestic and international market competition intensifies, people's demands for the quality and appearance of material products will undoubtedly become even higher. The union of design education, research, and future market needs, as well as the alliance with high-tech methods, along with international exchanges and collaboration, have formed a trend. Based on concerns about the weak foundation of design education theory, the China Academy of Art and Shanghai Shuxue Publishing House have jointly compiled and published this "Modern Design Grand Series" to contribute solid work to the theoretical foundation of China's design field, address the shortcomings in current teaching, and simultaneously enhance the theoretical quality of our faculty consortium and the broader design community. Of course, the theoretical assumptions and disciplinary frameworks proposed in this series need to be further validated and optimized by more practitioners, and more theorists should join in to elevate the overall level of this research field.
