Illusion of progress

Author: Georges Sorel (France)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-08-01
Features: In The Illusion of Progress and in most of his other works, Sorel's purpose is to demonstrate that moral excellence was early separated from political progressivism and anchored in socialist independence of producers. To preserve this integrity, the virtuous new man must always be independent of all ideas and institutions associated with the concept of progress—the very purpose of the idea of progress is to eliminate the social conflicts arising from the formation of these distinctions. This is another reason why Sorel does not regard Marx, the theorist who elaborated on class conflict and struggle, as a progressive thinker.
