Publish Date: 2003-05-01
Features: As early as the 1940s, Chinese cartoonist Wang Zimei wrote an article introducing Adamsen, saying: "Adamsen is like Don Quixote in terms of heroism, and like Ah Q in terms of spiritual victory. His lively presence in magazine illustrations stole the spotlight, and his humor, which is extraordinary yet utterly ordinary, left people in stitches. On one hand, it was the lovable typicality of the main character, and on the other, the simplicity and economy of the illustrations, as well as the witty and enduring humor." Adamsen is one of the earlier internationally renowned comic strips introduced to China. It primarily depicts the image of a small character who always faces setbacks and misfortunes in life but remains optimistic, resilient, and persistent. Jacobson began creating and publishing Adamsen in 1920 and quickly gained worldwide influence, becoming a classic in the treasure trove of European comics. Adamsen's character design is highly distinctive and typical, rarely seen in world comic strips. Jacobson sculpted a vivid image with simple and accessible brushwork. The themes, character personalities, suspense, and conflicts of the comic are all well-developed within the small frames. The artist effortlessly and skillfully handles the material, drawing from both life experience and a keen eye.
