Features: The third edition of this book has been comprehensively revised based on national and industry standards related to geotechnical engineering issued from 1993 to 2002, as well as the development of the geotechnical engineering discipline. The book is divided into four parts: Rock and Geological Processes, Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, and Geotechnical Problems in Unfavorable Geological Conditions and Special Soil Foundations.
Part 1: Rock and Geological Processes introduces the engineering properties and classification of rocks, common physical geological phenomena and geological processes, adverse engineering geological conditions and their impact on engineering.
Part 2: Soil Mechanics primarily describes the fundamental theories of soil mechanics, including the physical and mechanical properties of soil, soil stress, foundation deformation, bearing capacity, stability, and earth pressure.
Part 3: Foundation Engineering mainly covers the design and construction of building foundations and subgrades, including foundation investigation, shallow foundations, pile foundations, caisson and pier foundations, foundation treatment, and dynamic machine foundations.
Part 4: Geotechnical Problems in Unfavorable Geological Conditions and Special Soil Foundations provides a brief introduction to regional special soil foundations in China, including foundation engineering in seismic areas, slope stability, collapsible loess, red clay, expansive soil, fill soil, soft soil, frozen soil, saline soil, and mountainous rock and soil foundations.
