Features: On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World War against Fascism, we specially edited and published this commemorative series. The series features a mix of Chinese and foreign writers, primarily focusing on medium-length novels, supplemented by a few longer short stories. It artfully recreates the magnificent scenes of the Chinese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, fighting bravely against Japanese invaders more than 60 years ago, as well as the global people rising up to resist the atrocities of fascist warfare. At the same time, it truthfully and vividly exposes the inhuman cruelty and barbarity of the fascists, as well as the immense disasters brought to the Chinese people and people of all countries by that war. Justice will ultimately prevail over evil. Sixty years have passed since that dark chapter in human history. As peace and development have become the two major themes of the world today, we should still learn from history, look toward the future, and tirelessly strive for world peace and human development, working to build a fairer and more rational new international political and economic order. This is also the original intention behind our editing and publishing of this series.
In the village where the 171 train makes a stop, only one young man, Vaskov, remains. The story takes place in May 1942, when German fascists escalated their invasion into Soviet territory. The war had taken the village's men, leaving Vaskov with his landlady Maria and female neighbor Polina, who endure the conflict in their own ways. The arrival of the female soldiers adds a touch of youth to the small village. The silent Lyuda, the poetic university student Sonja, the kind rural girl Lisa, and the timid and eccentric Galka—war has not stolen the girls' youthful vitality, especially with the fiery Genya's arrival, who blows a refreshing breeze through their hearts, stirring their desire for beauty. However, danger is approaching. The girls fall one by one to the guns of the German army, and the grieving Vaskov charges at the enemy.
