In Learning Web Design, author Jennifer Niederst shares with you the knowledge and experience she has gained over the years working in web design (whether as a designer or a teacher). The book starts with basic knowledge—explaining concepts such as the Internet, web pages, browsers, and URLs, so you don’t need a lot of background knowledge about how web pages work. Jennifer helps you build a solid foundation in HTML, images, and design principles, all of which are essential for designing effective web pages. She also explains the nature of web media and gradually demonstrates the process of web design, from the initial concept to the final product. Learning Web Design includes basic HTML knowledge and concepts, along with detailed examples on formatting text, adding image elements, creating links, building tables and frames, and using web colors. In addition to introducing each HTML tag, the book also provides tips on using three popular web design software: Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, and Microsoft FrontPage. It explains which format to choose for different types of images—GIF or JPEG—and includes techniques for optimizing images for web transmission. The book also provides detailed step-by-step instructions for creating images using web image editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks, and JASC PaintShop Pro. It offers a learning guide for creating practical websites, including information design, interface design, and navigation design. It provides many web design tips to help you make correct design decisions and avoid common beginner mistakes. Unlike other beginner books, Learning Web Design is comprehensive and thorough. It provides all the information you need to design a website and lays a solid foundation for advanced web design work.
