1. In accordance with the teaching syllabus for "Physiology of Domestic Animals" (for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine majors) (70 hours of theoretical teaching, with approximately 4,000 words per hour), the book is designed to meet the needs of classroom teaching, aiming for conciseness and precision while facilitating self-study. The total word count of the book is controlled within 300,000 words.
2. All chapters have been rewritten, with major adjustments made to the introduction, digestion, nervous system, and other chapters. New content has been added, including intercellular communication, membrane transport, and sensory physiology, making the textbook more comprehensive in reflecting the integrity and unity of the organism.
3. Considering the developments in the field of physiology since the publication of the second edition, outdated and inappropriate content has been removed, and newly recognized physiological content and mechanisms have been added. Some chapters of the manuscript for this edition were reviewed by: Zhao Rushan of Nanjing Agricultural University, Wang Jinluo of Beijing Agricultural College, Wang Linxian, Qiao Huili, Zheng Xing, and Ai Xiaojie of China Agricultural University.
