Features: China is a unified multi-ethnic country. The Han nationality and all ethnic minorities have long worked, lived, and multiplied on this vast land, making outstanding contributions in the struggle to build our great motherland. Although ethnic minorities account for 8% of the total population of the country, they are widely distributed and mostly located in border areas, where resources are very abundant. Therefore, they play a rich and important role in the construction of the four modernizations and the consolidation of national defense. Historical experience has proven that to build China into a prosperous and strong country, it is necessary to have a situation of close mutual assistance, unity, and friendship among all ethnic groups, and unity first relies on mutual understanding. Since the founding of the country, the Party's ethnic policies have been continuously publicized through various channels, introducing the great changes that have taken place among all ethnic groups after liberation. In the new situation, to help a broad readership understand the situation of China's ethnic minorities more comprehensively and systematically, our publishing house has decided to publish a series of "Ethnic Knowledge Series" in installments, primarily featuring text with appropriately accompanied photographs that reflect the characteristics of ethnic minorities.
