Features: The Chinese government successfully conducted the fifth national census at 00:00 on November 1, 2000, obtaining rich and detailed population data, including a significant amount of ethnic population data, which provides a rare opportunity and favorable conditions for analyzing and studying the development status of the 56 ethnic groups in China. To meet the needs of people from all walks of life at home and abroad, the Population and Social Science and Technology Statistics Department of the National Bureau of Statistics and the Economic Development Department of the National Commission for Ethnic Affairs cooperated to select and organize some important ethnic population data, jointly edited and published this book for readers. The book is bilingual (Chinese and English) and divided into two volumes. It includes: comprehensive population data of all ethnic groups, including content related to ethnic groups in both the short form and long form of the census questionnaire. It mainly reflects the basic overview and various structural situations of ethnic populations, such as education level, employment status, marriage, fertility, family, housing, migration, and mortality; the population distribution of cities and counties in the country, classified by ethnicity and gender. The index section, in addition to the Chinese and English indexes, also includes a Pinyin subject index at the back of the book. The fifth national census targeted all individuals holding Chinese nationality and residing within the territory of the People's Republic of China, with each person being registered for the census at their place of residence. The urban-rural classification standards for the census followed the "Provisions on the Statistical Division of Urban and Rural Areas (Trial)" issued by the National Bureau of Statistics. The fifth national census used both short and long forms of the census questionnaire. The short form reflected basic population status, while the long form included all short form items and additional items related to migration, education, economic activity, marriage and family, fertility, and housing. According to the census methods and sampling details of the long form, 10% of households filled out the long form, while the remaining households filled out the short form. The data in this book is based on the actual census registration and is directly aggregated without any adjustments. Therefore, readers must pay full attention to the following factors when using this data, especially when estimating the overall population: 1. The number of people missed in the population census; 2. The post-census quality check showed a direct registration total population undercount rate of 1.81%; 3. The sampling ratio of the long form data is calculated as the total population of the long form divided by the computer-compiled total population, which is 9.50; 4. Since the long form uses households as the sampling unit, the sampling ratios of various structural data in the long form cannot be consistent. The data in this book is for the population of 22 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in mainland China, excluding Taiwan Province and the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, as well as active-duty personnel of the People's Liberation Army. Blank entries in the data indicate the absence of numerical values.
