(1) This book was compiled as a textbook for the course "Ethnic Music." Its scope is limited to traditional ethnic music forms and does not include new music forms since the May Fourth Movement.
(2) The book was not strictly written in the style of a textbook. When presenting certain theoretical explanations, it took into account that general readers may have limited knowledge of basic ethnic music concepts, hence it includes more introductory knowledge.
(3) The book was collectively compiled by the "Ethnic Music Research Class" organized by the institute. The class members included teachers and students from music and art colleges across the country, as well as music workers from other units and researchers from the Institute of Music Research. A total of 60 people participated in the drafting of the initial manuscript.
