Features: This book is a specialized study on the structure, division of labor, and construction strategy of China's capital region. It focuses on the economic ties, industrial structure, spatial structure, and functional division within the region, presenting a comprehensive view of the capital region's reality and prospects from economic, social, ecological, and spatial perspectives, as well as how to advance its development. The book systematically reviews and explores the basic concepts and criteria for defining metropolitan regions, combining China's urbanization development stage, characteristics, and the uniqueness of the capital region to highlight the definitions and issues of China's metropolitan regions and capital regions. It describes the stages of metropolitan region formation and evolution and analyzes the driving mechanisms for promoting metropolitan region development. Based on a comprehensive introduction to general models of spatial connections and spatial structure changes in metropolitan regions abroad, it summarizes the commonalities and differences of these models. For the first time, this book divides the capital region into different spatial scales: the narrow capital region, the medium capital region, and the broad capital region, and divides it into different functional connections: the capital economic region, the capital ecological region, and the capital leisure tourism region. The book also analyzes and elaborates on the basic development trends of China's major metropolitan regions, the similarities and differences of China's three major metropolitan regions (the capital region, the Yangtze River Delta metropolitan region, and the Pearl River Delta metropolitan region), their spatial structures, division of labor, and regional cooperation. Based on an analysis of the background and current status of the capital region's development, the book proposes a blueprint and construction strategy for the economic, social, ecological, and spatial development of the capital region. It proposes that the capital region should become an economic center region with international and domestic competitiveness, driving the development of northern China, and should become a stage where natural ecology and economy develop harmoniously, is sustainable, and can provide a safe, comfortable, and convenient production and living environment for 60 million residents.
