Features: The Nushu script is the only female-specific writing system remaining in the world and is on the verge of extinction. Professor Zhao Liming, one of the earliest discoverers and researchers of Nushu, has carefully selected over 650 readable Nushu works from nearly a thousand pieces of collected materials spanning decades. These selected works have been scanned, photocopied, and accompanied by translations and annotations, compiled into five volumes. This is currently the most comprehensive and extensive collection of Nushu research available worldwide, encompassing over 90% of the original Nushu materials that have been preserved.
This book includes 652 photocopied Nushu works, totaling over 220,000 words, along with background information on Nushu. It truthfully and thoroughly preserves the original form of Nushu to the greatest extent possible, providing a scientifically reliable basis for those interested in and studying Nushu, while safeguarding this unique cultural heritage in its authentic state. It offers new materials, perspectives, and insights for fields such as linguistics, paleography, literature, anthropology, folklore, and sociology.
This book is the culmination of Professor Zhao's 20 years of dedication. In addition to using precious original documents for photocopying, it includes a preface, two appendices, and three Nushu character tables. It not only guides the further development of Nushu character recognition and the deepening of Nushu research but also plays a significant role in correcting misinformation and addressing the harmful practices of profit-driven falsehoods in the current field of Nushu studies.
The original Nushu texts have been preserved as valuable artifacts in museums across various regions, making it difficult to view them easily. Therefore, this book also holds exceptional collectible value.
