The final draft was completed in the 11th year of the Chongzhen era (1638), and the book was printed near the time of the Ming Dynasty's collapse. The entire work gathers memorials and articles from various Ming Dynasty literary collections on topics such as military affairs, current politics, frontier defense, etiquette, taxation, criminal law, agriculture, maritime transport, water conservancy, finance, and the imperial examinations, making it of great value for the study of Ming history. It was listed as a forbidden book during the Qing Dynasty and was repeatedly banned during the Qianlong era, making it a rare and valuable edition. The Commercial Press published a photolithographic edition in 1962 based on copies from the Pinglu Hall of Yunjian. The original book is organized by individuals and arranged chronologically. It includes eight prefaces by Fang Yuegong and others, a list of distinguished scholars, a preface, and a general index of names and titles. The Commercial Press edition supplements a "Classification Index of Ming Jingshi Wenbian" and an "Author Index of Ming Jingshi Wenbian," making it very convenient for reference.
