It is a large-scale, relatively complete, and specialized Confucian studies series. This series aims to comprehensively reflect the achievements and standards of Confucian studies by scholars over the past century by selecting representative papers and works since the 20th century. It serves as a systematic academic reference for further Confucian studies in the new century.
"The Great Series of Confucian Studies in the 20th Century" consists of 21 volumes, each divided into three parts:
1. Introduction: Each volume's introduction is an academic paper on the specific topic of the volume. The 21 volumes cover: Studies on Confucius, Studies on the Confucian School, Studies on Confucian Classics, Modern Confucian Studies, Confucian Economic Thought, Confucian Religious Thought, Confucian Ethical Thought, Confucian Historical Thought, Comparative Confucianism and Taoism, Confucianism and Western Philosophy, Studies on the Dissemination of Confucianism, Studies on Confucian Philosophical Thought, Studies on Confucian Educational Thought, Studies on Confucian Political Thought, Studies on Confucian Management Thought, Studies on Confucian Literary Thought, Studies on Confucian Aesthetic Thought, Comparative Confucianism and Buddhism, Confucian Studies in Japan and Korea, Studies on Confucian Cultural Thought, and Confucianism and Pragmatism. Each volume's introduction is 30,000 to 50,000 words, providing a systematic review and reflection on the topic. The 21 introductions are carefully researched by professors and experts, and together with the introductory essays, they form a million-word monograph titled A Review and Reflection on Confucian Studies in China in the 20th Century.
2. Main Body: This section selects representative papers and excerpts from works on the specific topic, arranged by the time of publication, category of topic, and chronological order of documents. The selected texts are primarily representative or academically valuable articles on the topic. The compilers provide brief introductions to the authors' lives and academic thought characteristics, as well as concise guides or hints for the selected texts. The 21 volumes of selected texts total over 10 million words, compiling the achievements of Confucian studies over the past century and providing a systematic academic reference for future research.
3. Bibliography Selection: Each volume selects a carefully curated bibliography of works and papers related to the specific topic, systematically reflecting the century-long journey of Confucian studies on the topic. It offers researchers valuable bibliographic references and serves as a guide for readers to understand Confucian studies over the past century.
The three parts of "The Great Series" are inseparably linked and reflect the compilation philosophy of combining exposition and creation, with mutual support. The selected texts and bibliography sections are "exposition," aiming to comprehensively reflect the academic standards of Confucian studies over the past century through selecting representative papers, works, and bibliographies of specialized research. The introduction of each volume, however, is an academic paper by the volume's editor on the specific topic, emphasizing "creation" and showcasing the editor's unique academic thought and standards.
"The Great Series of Confucian Studies in the 20th Century" organizes its content chronologically, with representative figures and their academic views as the threads, comprehensively summarizing and reviewing the academic achievements of Confucian studies in China over the past century. It fully demonstrates the spiritual of different ideological schools at various historical stages of the 20th century in Confucian studies or academic debates.
