Features: In the late 20th century, information science and technology, represented by computer and communication technologies, had a profound impact on the world economy, science and technology, military, education, and culture. The rapid popularization and application of information science and technology drove the vigorous development of the global information industry, bringing substantial returns to many countries. Entering the 21st century, especially with China's entry into the WTO, the international competition in the information industry will become even more intense. Although China's information industry achieved rapid development in the late 20th century, it still has a significant gap compared to developed countries, as well as countries like India and Ireland. The development speed of national informatization and the international competitiveness of the information industry will ultimately depend on the quality and quantity of information science and technology talent. To accelerate the cultivation of a large number of high-quality information technology professionals, the Ministry of Education has taken an important measure: introducing outstanding foreign textbooks on information science and technology and promoting English teaching or bilingual education in schools with the necessary conditions. To this end, the Ministry of Education has requested Higher Education Press to first carry out pilot work on the introduction of information science and technology textbooks. At the same time, two requirements have been proposed: high quality and low price. Through the efforts of Higher Education Press and the expert group for introducing information science and technology textbooks, within a relatively short period, over 20 recommended textbooks introduced by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education have been published. Since their publication, these textbooks have received widespread acclaim. Many of them are classic works by renowned experts and professors in the field of information science and technology, as well as outstanding works reflecting the latest advancements in the field, representing the top level of information science and technology education worldwide. Moreover, their prices are highly competitive, comparable to domestically compiled textbooks. These textbooks cover the curriculum system of computer science and technology, embodying characteristics such as authority, systematicity, advancement, and economy. Currently, the Ministry of Education is promoting the construction of model software schools in 35 universities nationwide, which is also one of the important measures to accelerate the cultivation of information science and technology talent. To support the teaching work of these software schools, in line with the teaching plans and course settings of each software school, Higher Education Press has recently invited relevant experts and teachers from software schools to select and recommend a batch of corresponding original teaching materials, which are being organized for publication in batches to facilitate bilingual teaching in software schools. We hope that the introduction and publication of these teaching materials will play a positive role in improving the teaching level of information science and technology in Chinese universities, narrowing the gap with international advanced standards, and accelerating the cultivation of a large number of high-quality information technology professionals with international competitiveness.
