Features: Professor Shan Huizhu of Beihang University edited "Mechanics of Materials (I)" and "Mechanics of Materials (II)," while Professor Xie Chuanfeng edited "Statics," "Dynamics (I)," and "Dynamics (II)." These are the research outcomes of the Ministry of Education's "Reform Plan for Teaching Content and Curriculum Systems in Higher Education Towards the 21st Century." They are part of the 21st Century Curriculum Textbooks and the Ministry of Education's "Nineth Five-Year Plan Textbooks for Engineering Mechanics." Among them, "Statics," "Mechanics of Materials (I)," and "Mechanics of Materials (II)" are also National Key Textbooks for the "Nineth Five-Year Plan" in General Higher Education. "Statics" includes geometric statics and analytical statics; "Dynamics (I)" covers the basic parts of kinematics and dynamics from classical theoretical mechanics; "Dynamics (II)" includes special topics from classical theoretical mechanics, as well as the basics of engineering vibration and fluid mechanics. "Mechanics of Materials (I)" covers the fundamental parts of mechanics of materials, involving the basic and combined forms of rod deformation, and includes issues of strength, stiffness, and stability; "Mechanics of Materials (II)" includes the advanced and extended parts of mechanics of materials. This textbook has actively explored the inheritance of traditional content, the introduction of modern scientific and technological achievements, and the transmission of knowledge while cultivating abilities and qualities. It is a new textbook for the 21st century, featuring new content, a new system, rigorous exposition, emphasis on fundamentals and engineering applications (including computer applications), and a focus on ability development. The textbook embodies a modular design, where the selection and combination of modules can meet the teaching requirements of different levels of engineering colleges and majors in basic mechanics courses. This book, "Mechanics of Materials (I)," includes nine chapters: basic concepts, axial tension and compression stress and material mechanical properties, axial tension and compression deformation, torsion, bending stress, bending deformation, stress and strain analysis, strength problems in complex stress states, and column stability problems. This book can serve as a textbook for undergraduate engineering majors at different levels of higher education institutions, as well as a reference for teachers and students at higher vocational colleges, adult education colleges, and relevant engineering technical personnel.
