Features: Research on the Inscriptions on Bronze Ware of the Yin and Zhou Dynasties is one of Guo Moruo's earliest collections of essays on bronze inscriptions. It was published in 1931 as a stone-printed manuscript by Dadaoshuji. In 1954, the author made minor revisions and added appendices, which were then published by Renmin Press. In 1961, it was reprinted as Issue No. 7 of the Special Publication on Archaeology by the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, published by Science Press. This book represents the preliminary results of the author's research on bronze inscriptions, containing many original insights and foresights. For example, his hypothesis on the form of the jie (a type of ancient weapon) has been confirmed by later archaeological discoveries. Compendium of Ancient Characters of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties is a reference book on ancient characters compiled by Mr. Guo Moruo. It was written in Chongqing in 1944 but was never published during his lifetime. It was published as a facsimile edition by the Cultural Relics Press in 1999. For this volume, we have included both Research on the Inscriptions on Bronze Ware of the Yin and Zhou Dynasties and Compendium of Ancient Characters of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties. To preserve the handwriting of the late Mr. Guo, occasional printing errors or the rendering of certain ancient characters in the original book, which were not corrected by the author during his lifetime, have been retained as they were in the facsimile edition.
