Eden Cherry

Author: Murong Xuěcūn

Publish Date: 2005-10-01
Features: As the third work in Murong Xuěcūn's "Youth's Cruel Series," Eden Cherries continues the author's recurring theme of "money's consumption of human nature." The book is divided into twenty-two chapters, with each chapter (except the final one) named after a relevant luxury item. The novel primarily tells the story of a young man who, by chance, encounters a mysterious figure and is gifted an expensive Montblanc pen. Subsequently, he gradually falls into a "trap of materialism"—Louis Vuitton handbags, Bentley cars, Rolex watches, and Armani suits. Surrounded by various top-tier luxuries of modern society, he is enveloped in opulence and the allure of fine cars and beautiful women. The protagonist's soul gradually becomes corrupted, with family, friendship, and love drifting away from him under the influence of money. His remaining conscience, once barely intact, also continues to crumble under the relentless assault of intense material desires until he descends into the point of drinking blood and eating people. In the end, when he realizes that the seemingly real world around him is rotting along with him and understands the principle that "the man who eats others will himself be eaten," it is already too late.
