The Shuangshuang Chinese Textbooks is a series of Chinese textbooks specifically designed for overseas students, suitable for middle school students with some background in Chinese. The textbooks were developed through the collaborative effort of Wang Shuangshuang, a teacher from California, USA, and Chinese experts, based on eight years of teaching practice overseas. The complete series consists of 20 volumes, covering 2,500 characters, and includes learning from literacy, pinyin, sentence patterns, short passages, to an initial systematic introduction to Chinese culture. The textbooks provide a broad overview of Chinese geography, history, philosophy, and other rich aspects of Chinese culture. The content is extensive, engaging, easy to understand, and suitable for both teaching and learning. Each volume is accompanied by a CD-ROM.
This book is the second volume of Shuangshuang Chinese Textbooks and is suitable for first-grade Chinese students in the second semester of grades 5 or 6. Its key feature is the transition from learning individual characters to vocabulary. The lessons consist of simple sentences or nursery rhymes, with repeated phrases and catchy rhythms. Character writing still focuses primarily on stroke practice. The book contains 9 lessons, covering 69 new characters and 60 vocabulary words. The course is designed for 10–12 hours of instruction (each hour lasting 1.5 hours).
Upon completing the second volume, students will have adapted well to Chinese learning, be able to read the simple texts they have studied, and be able to write the learned characters in basic stroke order.
