Features: This book not only outlines and analyzes the natural and cultural background of the development of education in Huizhou, as well as the basic lines, conditions, and characteristics of the development of official schools, academies, and primary education in Huizhou during the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties; but also selectively introduces the educational thoughts of famous Huizhou educators since the Song Dynasty, summarizes and discusses the number of Huizhou scholars, the academic and achievements of the scholar-official group, the relationship between Huizhou merchants, Huizhou clans, and the development of education in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as the overall characteristics and historical role of Huizhou education during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Through the study of regional education in Huizhou, especially the development of regional education in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties, we can at least draw the following conclusions: First, the development of regional education, apart from being influenced and restricted by national politics and national policies, is more closely related to the cultural background, social customs, social organizations, and economic foundations of the region, and is the result of the comprehensive interaction of these factors. Second, due to the differences in socio-economic and cultural conditions among various regions, the development of regional education influenced by them also shows differences. In terms of Huizhou, its educational development has both national consistency and its own uniqueness. This is precisely the charm of regional education history research. Third, the development of regional education is influenced and shaped by other social factors in the region, and the development of regional education will inevitably have a certain counteraction on the development of these influencing social factors. This book is the final outcome of the sub-project "Huizhou Culture Research" under the National Social Science Research Program of the 9th Five-Year Plan and the "Research on the Development of Regional Education in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing Dynasties" under the National Education Science Research Program of the 15th Five-Year Plan.
