Features: China is currently in the critical stage of reform, and government transformation is key to building a harmonious society. If government transformation is not properly addressed, the goal of building a harmonious society will be difficult to achieve. The China Reform and Development Research Institute (CRDRI) has been focusing on government reform research in recent years. Since proposing the forum topic "Shifting from an economic development-oriented government to a public service-oriented government" in 2003, CRDRI has collaborated with the German Technical Cooperation Company to hold three international forums on government reform in Haikou. In June 25-26, 2005, CRDRI hosted the "International Forum on Government Transformation and Building a Harmonious Society," attended by over 300 experts, scholars, government officials, and journalists from domestic and international organizations. Among them, representatives from Germany, Sweden, the United States, Poland, Russia, and other countries and international organizations accounted for 25 attendees. The forum conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as government transformation centered on public services, the transformation of people-centered public policies, fairness and efficiency in the reform of the income distribution system, social responsibility, public interest, and public governance. This book is a collection of key articles from the "International Forum on Government Transformation and Building a Harmonious Society."
