Features: Wang Duo (1592—1652), styled Juesi, was known as Songqiao. He was a native of Mengjin, Henan. As a calligrapher during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, he studied the works of the Wang family (Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi) and also devoted himself to Mi Fu. His calligraphic style possesses a unique character, with exquisite brushwork. The current collection of Wang Duo's letter scripts is from his prime years, featuring vivid strokes and a spirited aura, making it an excellent example of Wang's calligraphy. This piece was originally engraved by Liu Guangyang, a skilled carver from the late Ming dynasty, known as "Jingshi" (a derogatory term for officials). The carving is exceptionally precise, effectively capturing the essence of Wang's calligraphy. It is now rare in the world, and this reproduction is based on the original (tuben) to serve as a guide for future scholars.
