Features: When I wrote this title, the face of my primary school teacher in his youth came to mind, for this was exactly his way of speaking, his style, and his conclusion. Now, as I gently stroke World Literature Fifty Years of Masterpieces: Essays Volume, which has、, I unexpectedly found myself in strong resonance with his way of speaking. Yes. Rich and magnificent, it should be the essay. Because "the grandest sound is the quietest," and the grandest form is invisible." The essay is not bound by any form—it is purely the free flow of thought. Thus, it holds the greatest possibility of achieving richness and magnificence. It can be a painting: it is the monumental artwork drawn by D.H. Lawrence in front of Mount Etna, his brush like a huge brush, depicting the great painting hanging from the zenith, his footprints left in The Sea and Sardinia. It can be a poem: it is the heartfelt recollection of Kawabata Yasunari about his youth, his lingering melancholy and tenderness in Impressions of Izu. It can be a letter: it is Tagore's soaring correspondence from the 1920s and 1930s while traveling in Europe and America, his visions for the future of his homeland India conveyed in Letters from Afar. It can be a reflection on life: it is Nadine Gordimer's speech upon receiving the Nobel Prize, her sincere heart laid bare in Writing and Being. It can be a true story: it is the music maestro Yehudi Menuhin's recollection of his childhood friendship with writer Vera Cassirer, his literary improvisation performed with the gestures of a conductor in Historic Houses.
