When idioms and scientific knowledge deeply collide, and when we read idioms with the perspective of humanistic popular science, we have this book, Science in Idioms.
There are tens of thousands of idioms in Chinese, and we have selected one hundred from them. These hundred idioms include the ancient people's naive understanding and summaries of scientific knowledge, such as "Flying reeds follow the wind" and "Splitting beans and dividing melons"; some are the ancient people's intentional or unintentional wise use of scientific knowledge, such as "Old Horse knows the way" and "Wishing for plums stops thirst"; and some are mistaken beliefs, such as "Playing the lute to a cow" and "Turning Huangji into Zhi."
We strive to make this book a member of humanistic popular science literature, allowing readers to explore the splendid history of our country through entertaining idiom stories, feel the charm of the humanistic spirit, and unconsciously learn scientific knowledge. At the same time, it broadens their horizons and deepens their understanding of related idioms, enabling them to use them correctly and flexibly in language practice.
