Features: In the history of Chinese literary criticism, the concepts of pragmatism and aestheticism have constituted the two main currents of literary theory development. Among them, aestheticism manifests in two forms: one is the theory of emotional expression, and the other is the theory of form, both of which originated in the Six Dynasties period. Regarding the theory of emotional expression, predecessors have already elaborated on it extensively, but regarding the notion that the essence or beauty of literature lies in form, the academic community has rarely discussed it. In light of this, this book starts from the actual literary criticism of the Six Dynasties period and takes Western formal theory as a reference, treating the literary elegance of the Six Dynasties as an independent research subject. It attempts to systematically elaborate on the formal thought of the Six Dynasties people, analyze their formal concepts, and thus objectively evaluate and examine the value and contributions of the literary elegance theory of the Six Dynasties period.
