Can candidiasis be transmitted to the husband?

Patient's question:

A friend of mine has developed candidiasis. She is a very face-conscious person and, apart from telling me, she hasn't told anyone else. She is afraid of infecting her husband and wants to avoid sexual intercourse with him for the time being. Can candidiasis be transmitted to a husband?

Doctor's answer:

Candidal vulvovaginitis can be directly transmitted to the partner (men who have sexual intercourse with patients), or indirectly infected (such as sharing towels, bathtubs with patients), many of which are transmission routes of candidal vulvovaginitis. When a woman has sexual contact with a man who is positive for Candida, the infection rate is 80%. Among men who have sexual contact with women suffering from candidal vulvovaginitis, about 12 out of 100 will be infected.
