Features: The construction of modern civilization in our country, apart from inheriting and promoting the excellent national heritage, also needs to widely learn from and absorb the precious spiritual wealth of other ethnic groups, including Jewish civilization. Due to various reasons, the study of the Jewish nation and its culture has long been insufficiently valued in our country, which is quite inconsistent with its actual value and great contributions to world culture. In recent years, with the deepening of reform and opening-up and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Israel, people have recognized the necessity and urgency of seriously studying this great and unique nation. It is precisely to meet this need that we organized the translation of this series of books. The main thing in understanding and studying a nation is to grasp its national spirit. The spirit of the Jewish nation is embodied in all aspects of its civilization, especially in its religion and philosophy. Therefore, translating works on Judaism and Jewish philosophy naturally becomes our primary task. Of course, we have also considered aspects such as Jewish history, politics, and customs, but due to the scale of the series, the content in these areas is relatively limited. Additionally, we have paid attention to the following points: First, the religious works selected are scholarly treatises on Judaism, not the original texts of Judaism—such as the Bible (Old Testament) and the Talmud. Second, we believe that Jewish scholars often have a more accurate and profound understanding of their own culture than foreign scholars, and their works are more authoritative. Third, although Jewish studies are still in its early stages in China and urgently need general knowledge-based works, we have still considered the necessary academic rigor.
