Features: This is a diary that records my firsthand exploration of the ruins of various human civilizations across tens of thousands of kilometers. The purpose was to trace the foundations of ancient human civilizations, but I discovered that so many sections were overgrown with weeds, dotted with trenches, and plagued by bandits. The tires of the jeeps pressed tightly against the ground, grinding forward kilometer by kilometer, completely unaware of what the next kilometer would bring. What I knew were a series of real and terrifying stories: here, religious extremists had shot dozens of foreign travelers in just minutes; there, three batches of foreigners had been kidnapped by rebel forces in the past two months; further ahead, thirty-nine police officers had just been killed by a drug trafficking group. When I conducted field research on the remaining primitive cultures in China and wrote Cultural Odyssey and Notes from a Mountain Residence, I had also repeatedly plunged into physical and spiritual adventures. But compared to this time, back then I could always find some way to hint at help and protection. This time, the small convoy was like a few ants creeping across the barren land, and any random act of violence could crush them to pieces.
