This novel, "Syringa Flower," was not marketed as a celebrity book by the publisher. The editor hoped to promote Tang Lei as a pure youth literature writer, and Tang Lei himself wanted to move readers through the words in the book rather than leveraging his existing fame to sell it. In early July of this year, after finishing the novel "Syringa Flower," many domestic renowned publishers like China Writer Publishing House showed great enthusiasm for the book. Many editors even flew to Nanjing to chase after Tang Lei when they learned he would be performing in Jiangsu. After extensive and repeated communication, Tang Lei entrusted the publishing rights of the novel to Beijing Xinxing Publishing House. He had seen a book by Zhang Xincheng published by Xinxing Publishing House and thought it was done well. Moreover, Xinxing Publishing House had always used Tang Lei’s writing level as the standard for evaluating books and planned to treat him as a newly debuted author in future promotions.
Nowadays, more celebrities are publishing books, but most of them consist mostly of pictures with very little text. Even when there is some text, it tends to be about personal privacy. In Tang Lei’s book, there is only a small author photo on the inside back cover, making it a work entirely driven by words.
The story of "Syringa Flower" has my own shadow in it—it’s a beautiful and romantic love story, as well as a realistic portrayal of a group of young people pursuing their musical dreams. A lot of creative elements are involved, as I imagined anded many plot points myself. My friends who’ve read the story find it quite touching. Great works of literature move people’s hearts.
