Young people often miss the stories of the elders, one after another, like winter-dried fruits hanging at the tips of tree branches, already too painful to lift up anymore. — What kind of great artist is a great artist in the eyes of the great artist Huang Xiaoyu? In this new prose collection Elderly Elders Compared to Me, the 80-year-old Huang Yongyu tells us the stories of the elders even older than himself. In this book with Huang’s unique style, the “demon genius” Huang Yongyu uses witty and unconventional language to recount the “elderly elders” he has met: Qian Zhongshu, Shen Congwen, Li Keran, Zhang Leping, Lin Fengmian, Zhang Boqiu, Xu Linlu, Liao Bingxiong, Zheng Ke, Lu Zhiyao, Yu Suoya, Huang Miaozi—these star-like names illuminate the cultural sky of China from the mid-to-late 20th century to the 21st century.
