Features: The Story of the Guerrilla Unit in the Rear of the Enemy depicts the story of the anti-Japanese struggle between the people and army of Jizhong. In 1942, under the command of the killing demon, the Japanese army's 70,000 elite forces launched a brutal "May First" sweep against the Jizhong anti-Japanese base, causing significant losses to the local people and army, forcing the anti-Japanese activities in the area to go underground. However, following the of the Central Committee, the Jizhong Military District's Ninth Division sent Wei Qiang and Jia Zheng to join the guerrilla unit, to return to Jizhong, infiltrate the enemy's heart, and carry out rear operations. Wei Qiang and Jia Zheng found the guerrilla unit leader and political commissar Yang Zixuan in Nanyu. Wei Qiang was appointed as squad leader, Liu Wenbin as the guidance cadre, and Jiang Tianxiang as the leader of the second squad. They analyzed the enemy situation and believed that the three traitors—Habaogou, Hou Bapai, and Liu Kuisheng—in the three-light area were the trusted men of the Japanese Constabulary Team Leader Matsuda. In Dong Wangzhuang, they had once killed over 170 villagers, committing countless crimes, and must be targeted first to launch a political offensive and mobilize the masses to actively resist Japan. Thus, over 40 elite guerrilla unit members first broke into Zhongzhen Town, where Hou Bapai was stationed, shelled the watchtowers, and severely dealt with his arrogance, making him panic and boosting the morale of the people. At this time, Wei Qiang led his squad, separating from Yang Zixuan and Jiang Tianxiang, to settle in Xiwangzhuang, known as the "Little Yan'an," where they received the careful protection of the fortress family Zhao Hetao and the masses. As a result, over three months passed, and they frequently struck the enemy, causing the enemy to be restless day and night, while Matsuda and Liu Kuisheng's "Joint Suppression Team" couldn't even find a trace of the guerrilla unit.
One day, guerrilla unit member Liu Dashi went out to scout enemy intelligence, made contact with the liaison officer, and on his way back, met He Dianfu from Huangcun, learning that his brother was also with the Eighth Route Army. As they were walking, they were spotted by two suppression team members. Liu Dashi skillfully killed one and captured another, seizing the advantageous terrain of the well platform, and fought bravely against the enemies surrounding them from all sides, killing many before descending into the well and returning to the village via the underground passage. At this time, Matsuda personally led the Japanese and puppet forces to heavily shell the well platform, with flames lighting up the surroundings. When they reached the edge of the well, they found nothing, and when they tried to retrieve bodies, they found nothing either. Matsuda had to return in frustration, but remained uncertain about Liu Dashi's whereabouts. Liu Dashi safely returned to Wei Qiang's residence and found that the district women's salvation leader Wang Xia and others were there. He reported the situation and handed over the letter he had retrieved to Wei Qiang. The next day, Wei Qiang and Liu Dashi disguised themselves as merchants and went to see Yang Zixuan according to the letter's instructions. On the way, the front Wei Qiang was detained by about twenty garrison team members. Taking advantage of the situation, he drew out a hidden pistol, killed the enemy's squad leader and several team members, and seized the opportunity to roll into the nearby traffic trench. Behind, Liu Dashi immediately opened fire on the enemies chasing Wei Qiang, sandwiching them between himself and Wei Qiang, causing the surviving puppet soldiers to flee in panic.
When Wei Qiang met Yang Zixuan, he learned that, to support the anti-sweeping operations of the Eighth Route Army in the mountains, the county committee had ordered the guerrilla unit to eliminate the reinforcement troops of the Japanese army led by Hou Bapai and Habaogou. On the way back, Wei Qiang and Liu Dashi skillfully rescued a group of villagers captured by the puppet army. At dawn on the sixth day, Wei Qiang's squad set up an ambush in a graveyard, evading the armed reconnaissance of two Japanese and puppet police cars, andd the first batch of over ten Japanese soldiers in the vanguard, killing the Japanese corporal "One-Hair," nearly capturing Habaogou, and by the time Matsuda and the Tsujiie Lieutenant led over 400 Japanese soldiers to reinforce, the squad had already vanished. Tsujiie, seeing a Japanese soldier who had been treated by the squad, was furious and stabbed him to death with a single strike, ordering the complete removal of all trees, wheat, and mounds within 200 meters of both sides of the Gaobo Highway. However, Wei Qiang sent the the enemy as a puppet headman but actually our army's liaison officer Li Luoyu to incite the garrison team leader Wang Yibing in Daoran Village to resist Tsujiie's order. Soon, the enemy began collecting new grain from the people, imposing a heavy burden on them. Wei Qiang first led people to cleverly seize the grain cart, then went to the newly arrived Zhongzhen Town, using connections to secretly transport back the newly seized grain by the enemy and return it to the people, preserving the fruits of their labor. At this time, Habaogou and Hou Bapai were transferred to Huangzhuang, where they continued to extort the people. Wei Qiang and Jia Zheng, among others, killed Hou Bapai, who was oppressing the people, in the market and issued a serious warning to Habaogou to cancel the collection of red pine timber, encouraging the bullied puppet headman and the people.
The Japanese and puppet forces continued to suffer setbacks. Matsuda appointed Liu Kuisheng as the team leader and formed a night raid team to search for the guerrilla unit at night and harass the people. Due to the temporary inability to understand the activities of the night raid team, the guerrilla unit suffered losses in several encounters and had to temporarily withdraw from the Sanlight area. Soon after, they successfully struck the night raid team in Machi Village south of Baoding but Liu Dashi, facing danger without fear, detonated a hand grenade and perished along with three enemies who were attacking him. Liu Kuisheng hid in the home of our underground liaison officer Guo Luogeng but failed to capture any guerrilla unit members and went to the prostitute "Fenqi" in Pingkangli, where he had a conflict with the deputy station head Wan Shishun from the south gate of Baoding Station. Wan Shishun harbored resentment and incited the conflict between Liu Kuisheng and the station head Xiaojilong. When Liu Kuisheng went to "Fenqi" again, Xiaojilong, together with Wan Shishun, severely beat Liu Kuisheng. Wei Qiang and Liu Wenbin took advantage of this conflict and, led by Wei Qiang, eight guerrilla unit members pretended to be the night raid team to avenge Liu Kuisheng, raided the station, killed the deputy station head Wan Shishun and another Japanese deputy station head, as well as some Japanese soldiers, and then lectured the captured prisoners, telling them to convey a message to Xiaojilong that he would definitely find Liu Kuisheng after his meeting. Acting Constabulary Team Leader Sakamoto, upon hearing Xiaojilong's report, immediately led his troops to massacre the headquarters of the night raid team. When he learned that he had fallen into the guerrilla unit's trap, he was filled with regret and was transferred out of Baoding by Matsuda. The people of Jizhong, however, celebrated the success of the guerrilla unit with joy.
Soon after, Wei Qiang and others assisted Wei Xia and other district and county cadres in carrying out the movement to reduce rent and interest. In Fan Village, they subdued the unscrupulous landlord Zhou Jingzhi, who pretended to be loyal but acted treacherously, striking at his reactionary arrogance and boosting the courage of the masses to fight, consolidating the results of the movement. Soon after, the night raid team was reorganized, but they suffered a heavy blow at the Huangzhuang ferry. Matsuda cursed Liu Kuisheng and personally went to suppress the guerrilla unit. However, at this time, the guerrilla unit had already infiltrated Baoding and settled in the home of the railway worker Jin Hansheng next to the garrison. At this time, Guo Xiaotu, the descendant of revolutionaries, had infiltrated the in Huangzhuang as a janitor and had gained the trust of Habaogou, becoming his attendant and providing Wei Qiang with many intelligence reports. Wei Qiang led the guerrilla unit, with Xiaotu as the inside man, skillfully capturing the in Huangzhuang, capturing Habaogou and Wang Yibing, but Habaogou escaped during the night. Wang Xia was injured at the Huangzhuang ferry and recovered for two months in the home of Tian Jiayuanyuan, learning that her mother had been killed by Japanese soldiers and her brother Liang Bang had recently been forced to join the night raid team. After discussing with Wei Qiang and others, she decided to persuade Liang Bang to switch sides. Liang Yuanyuan and her husband Tian Changxing were very happy and resolved to assist Wei Qiang and Wang Xia in their efforts. When Liang Bang returned to Tian Jiayiao for a funeral, he was finally persuaded and actively cooperated with the guerrilla unit, killing the Japanese corporal who had killed his mother during the ritual and many Japanese soldiers, with the surviving Japanese soldiers all becoming prisoners. The guerrilla unit captured the and seized a large amount of war spoils. Habaogou escaped back to Baoding and, through his wife and Liu Kuisheng's connections, gained Matsuda's favor and became a member of the night raid team. At this time, the enemy concentrated heavy troops on the Pinghan Railway for suppression. Matsuda ordered Habaogou to destroy the tunnels he had seen when he fled. Wei Qiang and Liu Wenbin decided to, letting the Japanese kill Habaogou. That day, Habaogou led Major Komeiji into the small village where he had escaped. The well-prepared guerrilla unit led the people to safely evacuate and skillfully attacked the enemy soldiers everywhere, killing over forty Japanese soldiers, but the enemy still couldn't find the guerrilla unit. Major Komeiji had one arm broken and his hat knocked off. Seeing Habaogou's servile appearance as he picked up his hat, remembering the day's defeat and Matsuda's secret suspicion that Habaogou had surrendered to the Eighth Route Army, he shot the traitor dead. Meanwhile, Wei Qiang's squad disguised themselves as Japanese and calmly walked through the enemy ranks, burning the in Liangjiaqiao, delivering a heavy blow to the enemy.
Matsuda, furious and humiliated, struggled desperately and personally led hundreds of Japanese soldiers to surround Xiwang Village, gathering all the villagers and demanding them to hand over the guerrilla unit. Liu Kuisheng immediately killed an old woman and He Hetao who refused to reveal the guerrilla unit's whereabouts. Liu Wenbin, who had not had time to evacuate, came forward from the crowd to say he was a guerrilla unit member. For a moment, the people all claimed to be guerrilla unit members to protect Liu Wenbin and Wang Xia, who had not had time to evacuate, making it impossible for the enemy to distinguish between the real and the fake. However, the night raid team suddenly sent the severely beaten and defected guerrilla unit member Ma Ming, leading to Liu Wenbin and Wang Xia being captured. The enemy used both soft and hard tactics but failed to make them surrender. Thus, they spread the rumor that they had defected from the guerrilla unit. In reality, they had been exposing and denouncing Matsuda and Liu Kuisheng, causing a scene at the "banquet" and severely beating Ma Ming. The enemy had no choice but to transfer them to the South Gate Prison. Wei Qiang was fully aware of their performance in prison. Under the guidance of superiors and with the assistance of inside contacts, he successfully hijacked the police car escorting Liu Wenbin, Wang Xia, and another comrade Qiu Dong, freeing them. After this, the days of winning the Anti-Japanese War were approaching, and Wei Qiang, following the instructions of superiors, decided to bring the guerrilla unit's activities closer to the Baoding city area. Through various connections, they controlled the fifteenth, and with the cooperation of the headman Tian Guang, they captured Matsuda and Liu Kuisheng, who had come to the for shelter during their inspection. Matsuda committed suicide by throwing himself into the river during the escort, and Liu Kuisheng was executed at the public trial held in both Xiwang Village and East Wang Village. At this moment, the news of Japan's surrender arrived, and people were immersed in joy, while Wei Qiang and others moved on to a new journey, ready to fight against the reactionary forces of the Kuomintang to protect the fruits of the Anti-Japanese War.
