Section 1. Foundations of Shaolin Family Fist Techniques
1. Shock Foot Stance
Shock foot stance enables one to plant their feet firmly on the ground, generating strength and stability, like a rock. This makes it difficult for opponents to knock them down. The Venerable Chun Mi of Shaolin said, "With Qi in the Dantian and roots in the feet, no matter where the enemy attacks from—though they may have divine hands, they cannot move me. If I move, the enemy becomes unstable."
2. Embracing Hand Technique
This technique focuses on using the hands for grappling and capturing opponents. It is also known as the Plum Blossom Hand. When applied with confusion, it can capture the enemy effortlessly. The Venerable Ji Pao of Shaolin said, "The technique of stirring the seas and overturning the rivers—this is the family's defense. When the enemy attacks, extend this stirring-seas hand, swaying left and right fiercely—no enemy can escape. When I move, the enemy becomes unstable."
3. Turning Body and Blocking Grappling Stance
This stance trains both body movement and grappling techniques, serving as a method to turn defeat into victory. The Venerable Rujing of Shaolin said, "Contract the body like a mouse, retreat to the lower ground; when the body expands like a tiger, turn back in haste. Step on the enemy and use the blocking-grappling stance, making the enemy fall face down on the spot. To turn defeat into victory, act swiftly and skillfully; to seek life from death, employ powerful techniques."
4. Pouncing Tiger Stance
This stance enhances the defensive and offensive power of Shaolin Family Fist, combining defense and attack. The Venerable Zhenqiu said, "Attack within defense, defend within attack. Attack and defend together; when defending, attack inevitably. Disperse the opponent's stance and charge straight to the center. If the enemy is timid and flees, close the door tightly to block."
5. Horse Stance
The horse stance ensures equal strength in both legs, preventing conditions like hemiplegia in old age. Similarly, both arms can develop equal strength, avoiding one-sided weakness. Some people specialize in training one hand, one leg, one finger, or one foot, though they may sometimes display astonishing skills. However, in later years, they are prone to imbalances. Therefore, without the guidance of a master, relying solely on brute force can lead to deviations. The Venerable Jijing of Shaolin said, "The horse stance with single whip skill, opens hands to four directions. Both arms and legs, develop equal strength. Avoid single-sided illness, hands and feet move with agility. Prolong life and enhance vitality, keeping the body strong and mind sharp."
6. Chain Leg Technique
