Lou Gerstner, Jr., the current Chairman of IBM and former CEO, joined IBM before serving as Chairman and CEO of RJR Nabisco. He had previously spent 11 years as President of American Express, concurrently serving as Chairman and CEO of its largest subsidiary. Earlier, he had been a director at McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. During the nine years Lou Gerstner led IBM, the company continued to thrive, with its stock price increasing tenfold, becoming one of the most profitable companies in the world.
