Features: This is a challenging era, and we are facing a primitive wilderness before a new civilization; its development holds infinite possibilities, but it also harbors many new crises. We can only adapt to the new century and fulfill our lives by developing more mature self-functions. This book primarily elaborates on the three dimensions of developing self-functions: cultivating self-esteem, facing reality, and learning self-discipline. These three self-functions are almost the roots of modern life adaptation, career development, and psychological health. With healthy self-esteem, one has the ability to make correct judgments and choices in a pluralistic and open society, the confidence to embrace various innovations and challenges, and the optimism to endure work and pressure. Therefore, it is the main axis of mental health and the foundation of self-confidence and optimism. People with healthy self-esteem tend to persevere in the face of challenges and difficulties, while those with unhealthy self-esteem are more likely to give up or give up halfway. Healthy self-esteem is characterized by rationality, practicality, creativity, independence, and adaptability. Their courageous attitude of acknowledging mistakes and actively working to correct them is a necessary personality trait for adapting to modern society. The next is facing reality. Facing reality is more important than anything else in the course of life. Detaching from reality will lead to wasted effort, life confusion, and mistakes and pain. The clearer we see the true state of the world, the better we can handle it; the less clear we see it, the more easily we can fall into difficulties and suffering. This applies to being a person as much as it does to doing things. As for learning self-discipline, we must recognize that life is a tough and complex journey. Without an effective set of discipline, life will become chaotic and disordered, losing its normal functioning. Everyone inherently has an effective set of rhythms, and once these rhythms are disrupted, various physiological transmissions will lose control, and health will immediately signal danger. The same applies to life and work. Those who are self-disciplined tend to be healthier, and people with good work habits are more likely to succeed. Discipline is a tool for solving problems, a norm for maintaining life efficiency, and a guardian ensuring that life does not become insane or fall into decline.
