Will uterine fibroids disappear on their own?

Patient's question:

A while ago, due to the occurrence of menstruation, the recurring symptoms of urinary urgency and frequency were removed, and I went to the hospital for a thorough examination. The doctor said it was a uterine fibroid. I'd like to ask if uterine fibroids can disappear?

Doctor's answer:

Uterine fibroids will never disappear on their own. Uterine fibroids are an estrogen-dependent disease. Patients with mild uterine fibroids may not need treatment, especially as they approach menopause. This is because with the onset of menopause, a woman's ovarian function and estrogen secretion ability decline significantly. With very little estrogen, uterine fibroids will basically stop growing. Due to the lack of estrogen, they will gradually shrink. For women who have reached menopause, regular check-ups are sufficient. However, for younger patients, it is best to actively seek treatment or have the uterine fibroids removed to prevent the condition from becoming more severe.
