The story begins like this. On an autumn morning, the air was very damp, and a layer of transparent dew had condensed on the weeds and tiles. The locust tree had already turned pale yellow, and the rusty iron seed clock hanging on it was also drenched by the dew. The team leader, draped in a padded jacket, held a high (sorghum) bread in one hand and a large, unpeeled onion in the other, slowly walking toward the clock. When he reached the clock, everything in his hands was gone, leaving only two cheeks like the old field mice in autumn fields, full of ground-hoarding joy.
