Features: With the release of the "Teaching Requirements for College English Courses (Trial)" by the Ministry of Education and its implementation in some institutions, college English teaching reform is reaching a new level. The newly released "Teaching Requirements for College English Courses (Trial)" shifts the focus from reading comprehension to listening and speaking, aiming to comprehensively improve students' overall language proficiency. To align with this new direction, the college English vocabulary list has been revised. The new vocabulary list sets higher requirements for the vocabulary volume and mastery level across three teaching levels:
- General requirement: English proficiency requires mastery of a total of 4,500 words and 700 word groups.
- Higher requirement: English proficiency requires mastery of a total of 5,500 words and 1,200 word groups.
- Higher still requirement: English proficiency requires mastery of a total of 6,500 words and 1,700 word groups.
A total of 2,354 active words are required to be mastered, including:
- General requirement: 2,204 words.
- Higher requirement: 130 words more than the general requirement (2,334 words).
- Higher still requirement: 20 words more than the higher requirement (2,354 words).
To help students actively use these active words, overcome difficulties in vocabulary learning, and improve their English application skills, we have specially compiled this vocabulary learning dictionary. Compared to similar dictionaries, this dictionary has the following features:
1. Focus on Key Points: This dictionary includes the 2,354 active words selected from the "Teaching Requirements for College English Courses (Trial)," helping learners avoid aimless study. Vocabulary required at different teaching levels is marked differently:
- General requirement (2,204 words) is unmarked.
- Higher requirement (130 words) is marked with ★.
- Higher still requirement (20 words) is marked with ▲.
2. Practicality: This dictionary provides the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) for each word to help learners pronounce and spell words correctly, meeting the requirements of writing and dictation. It also offers part-of-speech explanations, common definitions, concise and standardized examples, various collocations, sentence structures, and contextual usage to help learners accurately understand word meanings, firmly grasp them, and flexibly apply them.
3. Targeted Learning: This dictionary focuses on easily confused and commonly misused words, adding learning points such as [Usage], [Hint], [Analysis], [Comparison], [Synonym], [Antonym], [Phrase] in the annotations to facilitate learners' summarization and learning.
