Features: Tiffany Aching is lying on the riverbank, tickling a salmon with her fingers. She loves to hear them laugh, as it makes many bubbles come up. She discovers that the happy salmon has already swum away, but there are still some things on the surface, just a few inches away from her face. It was a small, round basket, not even half the size of a coconut shell. Something had been plastered over the basket's holes, so it floated on the water. A tiny figure, only six inches tall, stood inside the basket. It had messy red hair, woven with a few feathers, balls, and pieces of rag. It also had a red beard, which was in the same terrible condition as its hair. Its body was covered in blue tattoos, and where there were no tattoos, a small Scottish kilt was worn. It was waving its fists at her and shouting, "Good heavens! Get away from here, you dear little fool! Watch out for the Green Head!"
Tiffany Aching is a nine-year-old girl whose family farm has been plagued by a series of strange events—monsters appearing in the river, headless horsemen in the fields, her little brother suddenly disappearing, and red-haired, green-skinned little people often appearing around her. To find her little brother, Tiffany takes two weapons—a frying pan and a magic book left to her by her grandmother—and sneaks out of the farm, stepping into the world of the little people.
Tiffany finds her little brother, but what she truly faces is the powerful Queen of the Elves, along with her terrible little nightmare creatures—those who, if you eat anything in your dreams, will never wake up again.
