Features: Competition is the core of a market economy, and competition law has naturally become a crucial component of economic law. As a fundamental legal instrument for maintaining market order, competition law plays an irreplaceable role in curbing unfair competition and establishing fair, open, and just market rules. Another task of EU competition law is to eliminate barriers to international trade among member states and create conditions for the establishment of a unified European market. However, the progress of EU competition law has not stopped with the unification and expansion of the European market. Starting from the foundation of European competition law formed by Articles 85 and 86 of the EC Treaty (now Articles 81 and 82), European competition legislation and judicial practice have been continuously developing and innovating, exerting a positive influence and role on competition laws in other parts of the world.
The gradual deepening of reform and opening-up has broadened the horizons of legal professionals in China and has also provided a more reliable and convenient platform for the study of European law. This book, as part of the Southwest University of Political Science and Law sub-project of the EU-China Legal and Judicial Cooperation Programme, is organized by faculty members who have studied in Europe. It includes several detailed analyses of EU competition law norms, aiming to absorb the essence of EU competition law and compare it with Chinese competition law to seek instructive insights.
The appendix of this book contains a large number of new EU competition law regulations and directives, primarily based on the "British and EC Competition Law Materials" edited by Kirsty Middleton and published by Oxford University Press in 2003. These materials are suitable for various individuals interested in competition law, particularly European competition law, as well as undergraduate and graduate law students.
Sincerely, we hope this book can contribute to the improvement of China's competition law.
