Features: The book is divided into 9 chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the prerequisite knowledge required for learning sampling theory. Chapter 2 introduces several basic concepts of sampling theory. Chapters 3 to 7 provide an in-depth and detailed explanation of conventional sampling methods—simple random sampling, stratified random sampling, second-order and multistage sampling, cluster sampling, and systematic sampling. They cover aspects such as basic concepts, characteristics, applicable scenarios, specific sampling steps, and the properties of three estimation methods—simple estimation, ratio estimation, and regression estimation. Special attention is given to discussing and comparing the properties of these three estimation methods for each sampling technique. Chapter 8 introduces various non-probability sampling methods commonly encountered in practice, with a focus on explaining their corresponding relationships with several probability sampling methods. Chapter 9 discusses issues related to sampling but not strictly part of it, helping practitioners broaden their perspectives and avoid mistakes. For the same purpose, at least one relevant case study is provided in key chapters of the book. This book can serve as a textbook for undergraduate students majoring in statistics, graduate students from non-statistics disciplines, and can also be referenced by teachers and practitioners engaged in sampling work.
