Wind and Cloud: A Collection of Chinese Literary and Artistic Essays

Author: Koichi Enoki

Publish Date: 2005-07-01
Features: We have not chosen works as substantial as "Examination of the Shangshu Cited in Wenxuan by Li Shan's Notes" by Spinroh Rohan or "A Study of the Text of Bai Juyi's Collection Based on Old Manuscripts" by Jirō Taito, as they hold high academic value but cater to a narrow readership. These books are important, and they should be translated and introduced when the conditions are met. What we aim to do first is to help readers get acquainted with a group of more accessible guests, that is, books written by scholars for non-Chinese specialists. The selected bibliography includes several new works, but most are "small books" written by "Daigaku." Some emphasize the preservation of Chinese documentary materials, others focus on filling gaps in local Chinese studies, some highlight their historical role in Sino-Japanese relations research, and others stress their influence in the Japanese academic community. We take one aspect at a time, without seeking perfection, accumulate little by little, and embrace diversity while balancing academic rigor and readability. Through this series, readers can gradually meet those long-known but unseen scholars, sharing the landscape of Japanese Sinology.
